Today in Joe's Life

Let's see, not really 100% today, a little of yesterday, but mainly today. I was walking to Expo Max Pavilion from the bus stop, and usually I will cut through the grass patch to get there. And I saw, for the first time in my life, yellow Mimosa flowers. I have never seen this in my life, for as long as I can remember. So what do I do, haha, shoot it.

Confirm it's a mimosa plant, because I touched it's leaves, and they close just like the mimosa plant. And it's beside the normal purple mimosa flower anyway.

So on my last few days of work now. I'm 2 days shy to clearing my leave and ending my NS term. So today on my way to work, I took some pictures of the mushrooms growing beside the road. Interesting little fellas.

I thought this was a weirdly colored flower. Whoever has seen a green flower?

More fun at work.
This is Frozzy, our new pet at work. He's created from part of my friend's belt. He likes to hide under dark areas of our office, and sneaks up to anyone who isn't paying attention and smacks him in the head.

Bought a miniature packet of Jack and Jill Roller Coaster and soon discovered it was a waste of my 60 cents.

This is how much they actually have inside. I haven't started eating it yet. They gave a miserable amount of stuff inside man. How disappointing can it get.

A weird poem behind the packet.

Anyway, after work, I met Jolene for dinner. We actually wanted to go to Sim Lim Square Foodcourt for "Minicows", a name she came up with for the Fried Beef with Rice/Noodles. But to our dismay, the minicows ran away. The shop was closed for the day. Thus we had western food there instead.

I had Chicken Cutlet Rice. Not bad, I rather enjoyed it.

Chicken Chop for Jolene. She took the Garlic Toast before I took this shot. And she refused to let me post the photo of her eating that here.

And so we were watching the 9pm show, Honour And Passion, on Channel 8, which was playing on the TV they had at the food court. They had super duper corny and lame lines on the script. Couldn't stand it how they tried to put the threat of terrorist in tv drama series. Horrible ending, but since Felicia Chin and Rui En was acting in it, so I didn't mind watching.

After that, while on our way out, we started to take photos of the new campus beside Sim Lim. I have no idea what school is this, think it's either NAFA or Lasalle. But it's very beautiful.
Simply mesmerizing.

Wonder how much they spent on building this. But I would say it's worth it, even though it's a little waste of space.

And then at the bus stop, I finally managed to take a some shots of the trailing red lights.
This picture reminds me of a song...
"The road is long...."

Fireworks Celebration on 18 Aug 2007

Hooray for fireworks. Let's see, on the 18th of Aug 2007, a few of us decided to brave the horrendous crowd and go watch fireworks at Marina Bay. So guess what, the crowd was as expected. But thank God, we managed to get a rather good location even though we went a little late.

Just look at how much people there were on the bridge.

I am 67% Frenzy!

Post NDP Syndrome

So the National Day is over, but still flags are still hung up all over. So on the way to work, I'll walk past this whole row of flags that the power station nearby hangs up. Not sure if it's done by someone, or the flag just gave way to strong winds, it now upside down. Worst of all is that no one even bothers to do anything about this.

So unpatriotic.

Do Not Worry

Let's see, where do I begin. God is Good, All the Time. Basically, He provided me with a great starting job with a great starting pay. Now the details.

I was praying for God to open doors to where He wants me to be, and close the doors to where He doesn't want me to go into. So guess what, He answers.

Surrender to the Lord, and He will bless
A few years back, I surrendered my NS to the Lord. I remember specifically that I told the Lord that I submit it to Him, and being our Almighty Lord, He sent me to Police. I have lots of free time to do what I have to, and I don't have to suffer much.

He has a plan for you
Next, I applied for SMU and NUS, I didn't get in. So I'm sure the Lord doesn't want me there now. So what's after that for me since my NS is coming to an end, was work. I applied for a few jobs, and then within a few hours, one of the company, Swee Lee Music Company, called me and asked if I wanted another position, IT Support / Marketing Executive, which they have and not listed on their website. So indeed God is showing me where He wants me to go.

God provides for us what we need
And guess what, He provides me with not just enough money to get through my days, He blessed me with a bag when I need one. (Thanks guys)

So let me close with this few verses as a reminder to us all of God's goodness and greatness.

Matthew 6:25-33
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Birthday, Service and FOP

Ok, I managed to save my data and put them all into another com. But this com is seriously slow and now it takes me double or triple the amount of time to edit the photos, upload and blog. I wonder how long will I be able to stand it.

The other day, my family (both physical and spiritual) celebrated my birthday. And I didn't know I had the same birthday as Shauna until I saw it on someone's blog, haha... Interesting. Now I know 4 people who has the same birthday as me. My aunt, my cousin, my good friend Si Ying, and now Shauna too, haha...

Fruit cake from Bengawan Solo. 22 already, how time flies.

My Family.
(l to r) Shi Jin, Mum, me, Dad, Shi Hua
I'm the oldest, then followed by Shi Jin who is 4 years younger, then Shi Hua who is 6 years younger than me.

And then my sister smudged cake on my face.
My dad was reprimanding her for wasting cake after that.

Then when it was Sunday service on Sunday. I was serving Lord's supper, so could go into the Max Pavilion earlier. So took out my camera and took a shot of the seats where we usually sit.

Lord, fill the seats. Not just for the numbers, but the lives that are changed by You.

And then the "Surprise" Party came. Thanks guys for the wonderful and timely present.
A limited edition Cumpler. Love it guys. Thanks.

So after service some of us went down to F.O.P. (Festival of Praise). It was good, really good. Don Moen and Delirious? were there, and they were good.

Action Against Tree Abuse (ATTA)

Recently, my OC and Directors made a really dumb decision together at work. They decided that we should print out every single case that the police handles, so that we won't miss anything. But guess what, instead of helping us, this process lags and jams the system, thus causing us to become inefficient and slow.

My prayer: "Lord, bless the leaders and authorities in my life with wisdom, Lord, that they may make decisions that actually helps, instead of causing unnecessary wastage of paper and our time."

This "smart" decision is interpreted by us as a death sentence to one tree per month. Yes, we calculated. Police has got about 2000+ cases per day. And if each case is printed out, we'll be using 2000 pieces of A4 paper for this process. In a week we would have used an additional of 14000 pieces of paper. And in a month, we would have wasted 56000 pieces of paper. So each A4 stack of paper is 500 pieces, and there are 5 stacks in one box. So here's how much paper we are going to use for August if these "bosses" of our don't change their decision.

22 Boxes of A4 paper for just August

Plus the normal consumption of paper that we already are using, it adds up to almost 80000 pieces of paper. Not adding the printing errors, the paper jams. Guess what. A tree produces about 80000 pieces of paper. See here. So we will be using one tree per month. What happened to the Live Earth message? Did it not get into the thick skulls of our bosses? Were movies such as "The Day after Tomorrow" not enough to tell them that Global Warming is here? Oh do I want to smack them in the back of the head and say, "Stop killing trees". But that I cannot do. So we do what we can. We set up a pressure group called "Action Against Tree Abuse, (A.A.T.A)", that lasted a few hours before we had to go home. This is our message.

Save Trees, Save World

Anyway, we also had a Nutella Challenge, a challenge for 5 bucks. You don't wanna know what happened.

A thick layer of nutella on a piece of milk bread. Nutty.
(And I know what it looks like, no need to say.)

And this is my favorite kind of butterfly/moth. No idea what is it actually called, all I know it has a common name of Day-Flying Moth, or Tiger Moth.
